Basic Site Information

The work includes excavation of

impacted soil containing mercury,
lead and other metals as well as
dredging of impacted sediment that
contains mercury and lead in areas
including the Acid Brook Delta
(ABD), Island Area and Area A..

Work is being performed by Seven-
son Environmental Services, Inc., a
contractor for The Chemours Com-
pany FC, LLC (Chemours) with
EPA and NJDEP oversight.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is providing this
Fact Sheet in conjunction with its Public Information session on
April 24, 2018. This Fact Sheet summarizes the dredging activities
to date as well as the upcoming restoration work in 2018.

Restoration activities will include Rotary Park, the woodlands adja-
cent to and west of Rotary Park that includes Acid Brook (south of
Lakeside Ave) and, the area along the south side of Lakeside Ave-
nue moving east to the Lakeside Avenue Park as well as the ABD
and the Island Area.

SUMMARY OF SOIL EXCAVATION/DREDGING ACTIVI-
TIES—2016/2017

~	Soil excavation at 16 locations within the Uplands Areas.

~	Mechanical and hydraulic dredging of approximately 36
acres in ABD and ecological layer placement in Area A.

~	Mechanical dredging of the Island Area and Area A totaling
approximately 3 acres.

~	Approximately 146,386 Cubic Yards (CY) of impacted soil/
sediment excavated/dredged, processed and disposed off-site.

~	Off-site disposal: transport of 4,736 loads of impacted mate-
rial.

~	Over 100,000 safe man-hours worked with no injuries/
incidents.

~	No exceedances of action levels related to turbidity in lake,
perimeter dust and mercury air vapor monitoring.

~	77 weekly Community Updates sent by EPA .

SUMMARY OF RESTORATION WORK—2018

~	Complete ecological layer placement in the ABD and Island
Area.

~	Site restoration of Uplands/ABD/Island Area.

~	Perform turbidity and air perimeter monitoring in accord-
ance with EPA-approved Work Plan.

~	Field oversight by EPA/U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

~	Weekly Community Updates and a Public Information Ses-
sion.

Mobilization for the restoration work commenced in late March
and the work is currently expected to be completed in August/
September 2018. A long-term monitoring plan is being devel-
oped and will be implemented beginning in 2019 for an initial
five year period.
