A public hearing is not planned at this time. The first appeal must be made to the Enviromnental Appeals Board. Proposed Permit Modification for an Existing Class II Injection Well Ranch Production LLC Oceana County, Michigan May 2018 The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency plans to modify what it calls a Class II injection well permit for Ranch Production LLC. EPA issued a permit for this well on April 1, 1987. On October 27, 2017, Ranch Production LLC, 3908 Hogan Rd., Pentwater, Michigan requested in writing a permit modification to reflect current standardized permit language. In accordance with 40 CFR 124.5(c)(2), only those conditions proposed to be modified above shall be reopened for public comment. (See Page 2.) Ranch Production LLC is currently authorized to inject salt water from production wells owned or operated by Ranch Production LLC into a rock formation 1552 feet below the surface through a well located in Section 8, T15N, R17W, in Oceana County. Ranch Production LLC also has Permit No. 15030 for this well, issued by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. EPA is accepting comments from the public (see box, left). The comment period includes 30 days for comments as required by law, plus an additional three days for any delay caused by mailing. During the comment period, you may ask EPA - in writing - to hold a formal public hearing (see address, left). Be sure to say specifically what issues you want to raise. EPA will hold a hearing if there is significant interest, and will publish a notice at least 30 days prior. You will have an opportunity to make oral comments or submit written comments. EPA will consider all comments, then issue a final decision along with a response to significant comments. The Safe Drinking Water Act requires EPA to regulate the underground injection of fluids through wells to protect underground sources of drinking water. Issuing permits is one way EPA does this. You can find the regulations governing underground injection wells at Title 40 of the Code of Federal ------- -2- Permit #MI-127-2D-0002, for the Henry Cox #1 injection well, is modified as follows: PAGE/PERMIT CONDITION MODIFICATION Pages 1-17 Replaced original permit pages 1-17 with new pages 1 through 13 to be consistent with current UIC permit standardized language.
