Proposed Permit Modification for
an Existing Class II Injection Well

Ranch Production LLC

Oceana County, Michigan	May 2018

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency plans to modify what it calls a
Class II injection well permit for Ranch Production LLC. EPA issued a permit
for this well on April 1, 1987. On October 27, 2017, Ranch Production LLC,
3908 Hogan Rd., Pentwater, Michigan requested in writing a permit
modification to reflect current standardized permit language. In accordance
with 40 CFR 124.5(c)(2), only those conditions proposed to be modified
above shall be reopened for public comment. (See Page 2.)

Ranch Production LLC is currently authorized to inject salt water from
production wells owned or operated by Ranch Production LLC into a rock
formation 1552 feet below the surface through a well located in Section 8,
T15N, R17W, in Oceana County. Ranch Production LLC also has Permit No.
15030 for this well, issued by the Michigan Department of Environmental
Quality.

EPA is accepting comments from the public (see box, left). The comment
period includes 30 days for comments as required by law, plus an additional
three days for any delay caused by mailing. During the comment period, you
may ask EPA - in writing - to hold a formal public hearing (see address, left).
Be sure to say specifically what issues you want to raise. EPA will hold a
hearing if there is significant interest, and will publish a notice at least 30 days
prior. You will have an opportunity to make oral comments or submit written
comments. EPA will consider all comments, then issue a final decision along
with a response to significant comments.

The Safe Drinking Water Act requires EPA to regulate the underground
injection of fluids through wells to protect underground sources of drinking
water. Issuing permits is one way EPA does this. You can find the regulations
governing underground injection wells at Title 40 of the Code of Federal
