PROGRAM The Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) program accelerates investment in our nation's water infrastructure by providing long-term, low-cost supplemental loans for regionally and nationally significant projects. CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF WATER MANAGEMENT PROJECT NAME: Water Main and Lead Service Line Replacement Program LOCATION: Chicago, IL INVITED WIFIA LOAN AMOUNT $336 million POPULATION SERVED BY PROJECT: 2,785,538 PROJECT TYPE: Drinking Water PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Water Main and Lead Service Line Replacement Program will replace water mains and the associated lead service lines in the City of Chicago's drinking water distribution system. The purpose of these projects is to remove lead service lines from the Chicago water distribution system to limit negative public health effects. FY 2020 SELECTION ROUND NUMBER OF PEOPLE IMPACTED: « w 25 million in 20 states Selected projects must submit an application for a WIFIA loan, pass a creditworthiness assessment, negotiate a mutually agreeable term sheet, and execute a credit agreement to receive WIFIA funding.
