A PHASED ASSESSMENT OF GROUNDWATER AND SUBSURFACE CONDITIONS INVOLVING PROTECTION OF THE SPARTA AQUIFER, CALHOUN COUNTY, ARKANSAS Project Introduction The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in association with the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, is conducting an investigation of groundwater and surface water at the former Shumaker Naval Ammunition Depot in south-central Arkansas. This project will provide important environmental information on the following subjects: •Quality of groundwater and surface water, •Protection of groundwater supplies, and •Detection of contamination EPA and ADEQ welcome your interest in this project and will be glad to answer any related questions. The Shumaker project will take place during 2006-2008 and will involve EPA and ADEQ, and authorized Agency contractors, conducting groundwater and surface water sampling, well drilling, and other related site activities.
