The Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency, a government agency with a mission of revitalizing communities and providing affordable housing opportunities, seeks to redevelop the property as affordable housing. EPA works with local governments to encourage revitalization in economically challenged areas. Property Information The property is located in an urban area with a mix of residential homes, apartment buildings, and commercial businesses. Prior to 1915, the site was developed with a two-story stable. Between 1915 and 1930 a two-story house replaced the stable. This house was demolished in 1982, and the property has since remained vacant. Technical Assistance EPA provides technical assistance to research historic property uses, conduct environmental sampling and identify cleanup options and costs. An EPA- funded environmental assessment was conducted to assess the property for contaminants of concern, including asbestos, volatile organic compounds, and metals. Lead was found above the human health screening level in soil throughout the site. Recommendation: Brownfields cleanup alternatives identified for this property include soil excavation, confirmation sampling, and offsite disposal. Future Use The Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency plans to redevelop the property with affordable single-family or multi-family homes. The property is located adjacent to an existing light rail line, and the new housing will benefit the community by increasing transit-accessible affordable housing in the area. •- EPA's Targeted Brownfields Assessment Program is a technical service to conduct environmental assessments on brownfields sites: www.epa.qov/brownfields ------- |
