Regions 1-10 PURPOSE The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Superfund remedial program and Office of Research and Development (ORD) provide a range of technical resources to EPA staff who support, manage and oversee contaminated site cleanups. We are pleased to announce the availability of two resources intended to assist EPA regional Superfund staff in identifying knowledgeable technical support personnel within EPA: the Superfund TechHub SharePoint site and the ORD Contaminated-sites Scientific. Technical and Risk Support (C-S'l \KS i shaivPoint site. BACKGROUND The 201? Superfund Task Force report contained 42 recommendations to improve arid to revitalize the Superfund program, including application of new cleanup technologies and approaches to accelerate National Priorities List site cleanups. One specific recommendation called for the Agency to develop tools to inform regional hPA remedial project managers (RPMs) about resources that explain best management practices tor technology applications. intern#! As a result, RPMs and other regional staff may now access two new tools, the Superfund TechHub and ORD C-STARS SharePoint sites, to find available EPA resources and expertise in applying innovative or existing technologies and approaches when cleaning up contaminated sites. OVERVIEW OF TECHNICAL SUPPORT SHAREPOINT SITES Superfund TechHub SharePoint Site. Superfund TechHub is a new internal EPA SharePoint site that contains information, including expertise type, on EPA subject matter experts and internal entities who can provide technical assistance to regional Superfund staff in support of site remediation. TechHub is a pointer system to technical resources, allowing searches based on the nature of the support needed. To find internal technical support, users may search for and contact subject matter experts and points of contact, who may be individuals within EPA headquarters or the regions or within regional or national workgroups. It also includes a link to the ORD C-STARS SharePoint site discussed below. The Superfund program's TechHub also provides EPA contact information and summarizes selected pilot and demonstration projects related to new site characterization and treatment technologies and approaches. To access TechHub, go to the following link, or search SharePoint for "TechHub": https://usepa.sharepoint.com/sites/oswer Communitv/superfundtechsupport/SitePages/Home.aspx. Office of Research and Development C-STARS SharePoint Site. ORD C-STARS provides a central location for submitting requests to the five ORD Technical Support Centers (TSCs) listed below: Engineering Technical Support Center Groundwater Technical Support Center Site Characterization and Monitoring Technical Support Center Superfund Human Health Technical Support Center Environmental Risk Assessment Technical Support Center Each regional office's ORD Superfund and Technology Liaison (STL) serves as a TSC's point of contact (see attachment for names and contact information). Acquiring assistance is as simple as regional or ORD staff completing a technical support request form summarizing site-specific information and outlining the help sought. Regional ORD STLs can also help RPMs complete the request form and identify the appropriate technology support center. The ORD C-STARS site includes collaboration and meeting 'rooms' to manage communications and share documents relevant to a support request. To access the C-STARS site, go to: https://iisepa.sharepoint.com/sites/ORD Work/ETSC/SitePages/CSTARS-Home.aspx. 2 ------- IMPLEMENTATION The Superfund TechHub and ORD C-STARS SharePoint sites are currently available for all Superfund staff members; the sites are not available to non-EPA parties. Regional staff are encouraged to use these resources to identify expertise within the Agency and to request technical support from the ORD TSCs. Additionally, OSRTI requests that RPMs, STLs and other EPA staff with experience conducting new technology pilots or demonstrations share information concerning these projects by entering information via the form provided on Superfund TechHub. EPA will review and update TechHub contents at least semiannually. SUMMARY The Agency contains an abundance of expertise in site remediation technologies and approaches. This effort aims to connect regional Superfund staff with that expertise to answer technical questions and to provide site-specific technical support. If there are any questions about Superfund TechHub, please contact Linda Fiedler, at fiedler.linda@epa.eov or 703-603-7194. For questions about the ORD C-STARS site, please contact John McKernan at mckernan john@epa.gov or 513-569-7415 or your regional STL.
