Enhanced LMOP National Map Launches!

The U.S. EPA Landfill Methane Outreach Program (LMOP) is pleased to announce that
an enhanced National Map of Landfill Gas (LFG) Energy Projects and Municipal
Solid Waste (MSW) Landfills has been published on the LMOP website.

LMOP's National Map is a visual tool that accompanies the LMOP database of U.S.
landfills and associated energy projects. The newly published version incorporates
layers for Tribal lands and environmental justice demographic data so that users
can identify areas where LFG energy projects may warrant additional consideration,
analysis or outreach to surrounding communities.

The data sources for the National Map are:

•	EPA LMOP database

•	EPA Environmental Justice Screening and Mapping Tool (EJScreen)

•	EPA Tribal data layers

The map provides operational LFG energy project data in four separate layers by project
type (electricity direct use, renewable natural gas (RNG)-pipeline injection, and RNG-
local use), and MSW landfill data in three layers (candidate landfills, landfills with
projects, and other landfills). Selecting an individual data point displayed on the map
opens a small pop-up window with data for the project or landfill.

The map includes seven demographic indicators and two demographic indices from
EJScreen. Each indicator or index is displayed as a national percentile. To see the
EJScreen layers, zoom into an area of the map at the state level or closer. Ten types of
EPA Tribal data are also included.
