The Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA)
program accelerates investment in our nation's water
infrastructure by providing long-term, low-cost supplemental
loans for regionally and nationally significant projects.

ANDERSON DAM SEISMIC RETROFIT PROJECT

BORROWER: Santa Clara Valley Water District
LOCATION: Santa Clara County, California

WIFIA LOAN AMOUNT: $74 million
TOTAL WIFIA PROJECT COSTS: $151 million
POPULATION SERVED BY PROJECT: 2,000,000 people

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Anderson Dam Seismic Retrofit Project will modernize Santa Clara Valley Water District's
largest reservoir to restore lost capacity, address seismic deficiencies, and protect public safety.
To comply with an order from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Santa Clara Valley
Water District lowered water levels in the Anderson Dam to 3% of its capacity. This WIFIA loan
supports the planning and design costs for the Anderson Dam's seismic retrofit, so that the
reservoir can safely and reliably return to its original storage capacity. Construction for these
projects will occur under a future WIFIA loan. This is the first loan under a master agreement
that will commit $580 million in WIFIA assistance to the Santa Clara Valley Water District to
accelerate the implementation of its nearly $1.2 billion Anderson Dam Seismic Retrofit Project.

PROJECT BENEFITS
