United States Environmental Protection Agency EPA530-R-08-001 February 2008 National Priority Chemicals Trends Report (2001-2005) Section 4 Chemical Specific Trends Analyses for Priority Chemicals (2001-2005): 2,4,5 - Trichlorophenol (2,4,5-TCP) Hazardous Waste Minimization and Management Division Office of Solid Waste U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Contact Information: Bill Kline, Senior Data Analyst Analysis & Information Branch (540) 341-3631 kline.bill@epa.gov Tammie Owen, Data Analyst Analysis & Information Branch (703) 308-4044 owen.tammie@epa.gov Ben Lesser, Chief Analysis & Information Branch (703) 308-0314 lesser.ben@epa.gov ------- 2,4,5 - Trichlorophenol (2,4,5-TCP) Chemical Information: Alternate Names - Collunosol, Dowicide 2 General Uses - 2,4,5-TCP is used as a fungicide to destroy or prevent fungi from growing. It is also used as a herbicide and to make other pesticides. How Much 2,4,5-TCP Was Generated? Exhibit 4.9. National Generation of 2,4,5 - Trichlorophenol (2001-2005) TRI Reporting Year 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 Total Quantity of 2,4,5-TCP (pounds) 20,657 17,913 22,857 5,083 3,800 Number of TRI Facilities Reporting 2,4,5-TCP 1 1 1 1 1 From 2001 to 2005, only one facility reported 2,4,5-TCP (Exhibit 4.9). Since 2003, when this facility reported the peak quantity of approximately 23,000 pounds, the quantity has decreased each year to 3,800 pounds in 2005. This decrease reflects a smaller volume of wastewater (containing 2,4,5-TCP) received from offsite sources for treatment by this facility. Where and in Which industry Was 2,4,5-Trichlorophenol Generated? Since 2001, the one facility that reported 2,4,5-TCP was located in Salem County, New Jersey - within EPA Region 2. From 2001-2004, this facility reported its primary SIC code to be SIC 2869 (Industrial organic chemicals, nec); for 2005, it reported its primary SIC code to be SIC 2865 (Cyclic crudes and intermediates). How Did This Facility Manage 2,4,5-Trichlorophenol? Exhibit 4.10.
