4^4 Green Infrsstructure U.S. Environmental Protection Agency - Region 6 Bioswale The Perot Museum of Nature and Science Dallas, Texas The 180,000 square foot Perot Museum of Nature and Science was built on a former 4.7 acre brownfield site and designed as a physical manifestation of the museum's goal and mission to "inspire minds through nature and science." Located in the museum's parking lot at the lowest point of the site is a bioswale planted with native grasses and trees which is used to filter runoff prior to storage and reuse. A 50,000 gallon rainwater harvesting system, which includes a 25,000 gallon below-grade cistern, captures site run-off, collects HVAC condensate and provides complete site irrigation and toilet flushing year-round. The Perot Museum of Nature and Science site has both LEED Gold and Green Globes certification and was one of 250 pilot program participants in the Sustainable Sites Initiative.
