A. o Community Update #31 Pompton Lakes Study Area Pompton Lakes, New Jersey Upland Soil Areas Excavation/Dredging Community Update January 2017 EPA CLEANUP ACTIVITIES Basic Site Information The Upland Soil Areas excavation is complete with the exception of one small area (Area Al) totaling ap- proximately 20 cubic yards (CY). Mechanical dredging of approxi- mately 19,300 CY of impacted sedi- ment (containing mercury/lead/other metals) in Area A and the Island Area is in progress. The work is being performed by The Chemours Company FC, LLC. with EPA/NJDEP oversight. ACTIVITIES—WEEK OF JANUARY 2nd ~ No additional transport/disposal of impacted material this week. ~ Transported/disposed 1,949 loads of impacted material excavat- ed soil/dredged sediment) a/o December 22nd. ~ Excavation of soil at Uplands Soil Area Al complete except for that portion of soil near sewer pipe. ~ Continued electrical work to support 2017 dredging activities ~ Continued perimeter monitoring—data on website: http:// www.pomptonlakesworks.com/pompton-lake-project/ environmental-monitoring/ ~ No exceedances of dust/ mercury vapor(/turbidity) action levels during monitoring associated with site activities UPCOMING ACTIVITIES—WEEK OF JANUARY 9th ~ Continue to treat/discharge water from site operations ~ Initiate reconfiguration of site, including equipment/electrical work/on-site haul road in preparation of 2017 dredging work NOTES: ~ Dredging work scheduled for 2016 has been completed ~ Remaining work includes removal of a small volume of soil in Upland Soil Area Al and ecological layer placement in the Is- land Area/Area A. This work will be completed during the 2017 dredging season. ~ With no further soil excavation/dredging occurring, turbidity and air monitoring have been suspended until the start of the 2017 dredging season. ~ A small work crew will be on- and off-site preparing the site for the 2017 dredging season. ------- |
