Community Update #20 Pompton Lakes Study Area Pompton Lakes, New Jersey Upland Soil Areas Excavation/Dredging Community Update October 2016 EPA CLEANUP ACTIVITIES Basic Site Information The Upland Soil Areas excavation is complete with the exception of one small area (Area Al) totaling ap- proximately 20 cubic yards (CY). Work is being performed by Sevenson Environmental Ser- vices, Inc., on behalf of The Chemours Company FC, LLC (Chemours) with EPA/NJDEP oversight. ACTIVITIES—WEEK OF OCTOBER 3rd ~ Transported/disposed of 743 loads of impacted material (excavated soil/dredged sediment) a/o October 6th ~ Removed turbidity curtain for access channel ~ Installed turbidity curtain/performed fish relocation - Island Area ~ Initiated mechanical dredging of Island Area ~ Processed/staged impacted sediment for off-site disposal ~ Continued perimeter monitoring—data on website (http:// www.pomptonlakesworks.com/pompton-lake-project/ environmental-monitoring/ ~ No exceedances of dust/ mercury vapor/turbidity action levels during monitoring associated with site activities UPCOMING ACTIVITIES—WEEK OF OCTOBER 10th ~ Continue mechanical dredging of the Island Area ~ Continue processing/loading/ disposal of dredged sediment ~ NJDEP assessment of Chemours proposed treatment modifica- tion of water from dredged sediment—one of two NJDEP groups reviewing proposal has given approval., no treated water to be discharged until proposed modification to the NJDEP per- mit is approved by both NJDEP groups ~ Continue to further assess Area Al excavation in Uplands Area ~ Continued perimeter monitoring of dust/mercury/turbidity levels ADDITIONAL NOTES: ~ Equipment maintenance to be performed this Saturday from 8AM till approx. 4PM.
