EPA CLEANUP ACTIVITIES

Basic Site Information

The Upland Soil Areas excavation is

complete with the exception of one
small area (Area Al) totaling ap-
proximately 20 cubic yards (CY).
Mechanical dredging of approxi-
mately 19,300 CY of impacted sedi-
ment (containing mercury/lead/other
metals) in Area A and the Island
Area is in progress.

This is EPA's 30th update to inform the community of the progress
of activities related to the portion of the Pompton Lakes Study Area
known as the Upland Soil Areas and the 3 acres of the lake
(designated Area A and the Island Area) that will be mechanically
dredged. The work is being performed by The Chemours Company
FC, LLC. with EPA/NJDEP oversight.

ACTIVITIES—WEEK OF DECEMBER 19th

~	Transported/disposed of a total of 1,949 loads of impacted mate-
rial (excavated soil/dredged sediment) a/o December 22nd

~	Initiated excavation of soil at Uplands Soil Area Al

~	Processed/staged impacted sediment for off-site disposal

~	Conducted water treatment activities - effluent tank discharge
events occurred based on sample results meeting discharge crite-
ria in NJDEP permit

~	Initiated electrical work on Lakeside Avenue for 2017 activities

~	Continued perimeter monitoring—data on website: http://

environmental-monitoring/

~	No exceedances of dust/ mercury vapor/turbidity action levels
during monitoring associated with site activities

NO WORK BETWEEN DECEMBER 23rd and JANUARY 2nd

UPCOMING ACTIVITIES—WEEK OF JAN. 2nd

~	Complete excavation of soil in Upland Soil Area Al— a small
volume of soil beneath the outfall pipe needs to be removed

~	Weather permitting, initiate placement of ecological layer in Is-
land Area and Area A

NOTES:

~	Dredging work scheduled for 2016 has been completed

~	Remaining work includes removal of a small volume of soil in
Upland Soil Area Al, ecological layer placement in the Island
Area and Area A and demobilization of some equipment that
will occur in January 2017, weather permitting

~	Site maintenance/security inspections will occur during the De-
cember 23—January 2 period
