The Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) program accelerates investment in our nation's water infrastructure by providing long-term, low-cost supplemental loans for regionally and nationally significant projects. REGIONAL WASTEWATER SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS PROGRAM BORROWER: Inland Empire Utilities Agency LOCATION: Chino, California WIFIA LOAN AMOUNT: $120,000,000 TOTAL WIFIA PROJECT COSTS: $245,253,472 POPULATION SERVED BY PROJECT: 875,000 NUMBER OF JOBS CREATED: 780 PROJECT DESCRIPTION Inland Empire Utilities Agency's Regional Wastewater System Improvements Program will implement a combination of projects that will ensure that residents of the Chino Basin will have reliable, long-term wastewater treatment and access to high quality recycled water. The program will improve four facilities across the utility's wastewater system, so that they can treat higher capacity and higher strength water flows that have resulted from population increases and water conservation efforts within the region. By completing these projects, Inland Empire Utilities Agency will continue to maintain regulatory compliance with statewide standards for recycled water production and improve the reliability of recycled water. PROJECT BENEFITS • Promotes continued public health by safely and effectively treating higher capacities of wastewater in compliance with statewide regulatory standards. • Addresses the impacts of climate change by ensuring reliable access to wastewater treatment and recycled water in a drought-prone region. • Reduces dependence on imported water supplies. • Saves Inland Empire Utilities Agency approximately $27 million by financing with a WIFIA loan.
