EPA CLEANUP ACTIVITIES

Basic Site Information

The Upland Soil Areas excavation is

complete with the exception of one
small area (Area Al) totaling ap-
proximately 20 cubic yards (CY).
Mechanical dredging of approxi-
mately 19,300 CY of impacted sedi-
ment (containing mercury/lead/other
metals) in Area A and the Island
Area is in progress.

This is EPA's 25th update to inform the community of the progress
of activities related to the portion of the Pompton Lakes Study Area
known as the Upland Soil Areas and the 3 acres of the lake
(designated Area A and the Island Area) that will be mechanically
dredged. Work is being performed by Sevenson Environmental Ser-
vices, Inc., on behalf of The Chemours Company FC, LLC
(Chemours) with EPA/NJDEP oversight.

ACTIVITIES—WEEK OF NOVEMBER 7th

~	Transported/disposed of 1,380 loads of impacted material
(excavated soil/dredged sediment) a/o November 10th

~	Continued mechanical dredging of Island Area

~	Processed/staged impacted sediment for off-site disposal

~	Conducted water treatment activities - 2 effluent tank discharge
events occurred based on sample results meeting discharge crite-
ria in NJDEP permit

~	Deployed turbidity curtain at Area A (it will be fully installed
prior to fish relocation) in anticipation of initiating dredging late
week of November 14th

~	Continued perimeter monitoring—data on website: http://

~	No exceedances of dust/ mercury vapor/turbidity action levels
during monitoring associated with site activities

UPCOMING ACTIVITIES—WEEK OF NOVEMBER 14th

~	Continue mechanical dredging of the Island Area

~	Continue processing/loading/ disposal of dredged sediment

~	Continue discharge of treated water from dredged sediment per
NJDEP-approved permit modification/acceptable lab results

~	Fish relocation related to Area A may be performed late in the
week if the Island Area dredging is completed

~	Continue to further assess Area Al excavation in Uplands Area

~	Continued perimeter monitoring of dust/mercury/turbidity levels

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

~	There will be equipment maintenance work Saturday, No-
vember 12th. There will be no dredging or processing of im-
pacted sediment or discharge of treated water.

~	The project remains on schedule.
