The West Coast Collaborative is a public-private partnership focused ori reducing diesel emissions throughout western North America and the U.S.
Pacific Islands. The Collaborative seeks to significantly improve air quality and public health by providing assistance to upgrade high-polluting
diesel engines, vehicles and equipment with cost- effective emission control technologies.

What is the Collaborative?

The West Coast
Collaborative is a
partnership among
leaders from federal,
tribal, state, and local
governments, the private
sector and environmental
and community groups in
EPA Regions 9 and 10.

The West Coast Collaborative is pleased to announce the Columbia-
Willamette Clean Cities Coalition's (CWCCC) receipt of a U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA)
National Grant to electrify transport refrigeration in Maricopa County in
Arizona. This project will be implemented using $1,380,770 in DERA grant
funding combined with $1,960,128 in matching funds from the project
partners.

What is this Project?

Columbia-Willamette Clean Cities Coalition (CWCCC) received $1,380,770 to
replace one diesel yard truck, seven diesel insulated refrigerated trailers and
truck transport refrigeration units (TRU) with one electric yard truck, seven all-
electric refrigerated trailers and truck TRUs, and install 108 electrified parking
spaces to support existing and planned TRUs capable of plugging into grid-
supplied electricity when parked. These projects will be implemented
throughout Maricopa County via a partnership between CWCCC, McLane
Company, KeHE Distribution, and Papa John's. The funds will be combined with
$1,960,128 in leveraged funds from CWCCC and participating partners.

Why is this Project Important?

Exposure to diesel exhaust is associated with decreased lung function and
can also exacerbate the symptoms of asthma, bronchitis and pneumonia. By
replacing diesel-only refrigerated trailers and yard truck with all-electric
variants and installing idle reduction electrified parking spot technology, the
proposed emission reduction projects will have positive impacts not only in
improving localized air quality in the immediate vicinity of the site facilities,
but also catalyze industry adoption of zero emission technologies.

Who are the project Partners?

This project will be administered by the CWCCC, a regional, 501(c)(3) non-
profit dedicated to incentivizing clean air and alternative fuel initiatives.
CWCCC received the DERA grant award through the WCC and will distribute
the grant funds to McLane, KeHE and Papa John's. CWCCC will be responsible
for data monitoring and reporting for the project.

*Estimated air emission reductions overthe remaining lifetimes of these engines
