Upland Soil Areas Excavation/Dredging

Community Update	July 2016

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is issuing its
sixth update to inform the community of the progress of activities
related to that portion of the Pompton Lakes Study Area known as
the Upland Soil Areas.

The project site for this phase includes Rotary Park, the woodlands
adjacent to and west of Rotary Park that includes Acid Brook (south
of Lakeside Ave) and, the area along the south side of Lakeside Av-
enue moving east to the Lakeside Avenue Park.

ACTIVITIES—WEEK OF JUNE 27TH

~	Impacted soil excavated from Areas El A, E1B, E2 and E3 was
staged /covered on-site in order for staging area construction to
be completed

~	Aforementioned excavated areas backfilled with clean soil

~	Construction of upper and lower staging pads initiated

~	Continued perimeter monitoring

~	Continued mobilization of equipment

UPCOMING ACTIVITIES—WEEK OF JULY 4TH

~	Continued excavation of impacted soil/backfilling with clean
soil moving west to east

~	Continued perimeter monitoring

~	Trucking of excavated impacted material off-site may begin
pending finalization of landfill approval...if temporarily staged
on-site, the excavated material will be secured/covered

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

~	Please follow signage that directs pedestrian traffic between
Van Avenue and Mandeville Street to stay on north side of
Lakeside Avenue

~	Expect an increase in truck traffic coming /going from the

EPA CLEANUP ACTIVITIES

Basic Site Information

The initial phase of work includes
excavation of approximately 3,160
cubic yards of impacted soil contain-
ing mercury, lead and other metals.
Work is being performed by Seven-
son Environmental Services, Inc., a
contractor for The Chemours Com-
pany FC, LLC (Chemours) with
EPA and NIDEP oversight.
