I A \Obtaining Technical Support for Superfund,

% ^

EPA's Technical Support Centers (TSCs) and other technical support services are available to Regional Remedial
Project Managers, Corrective Action Staff, and On-Scene Coordinators needing specialized technical expertise
for specific tasks or projects. Each year, the Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response (OSWER) and the
Office of Research and Development (ORD) jointly fund the various centers that provide most of this expertise.
You can access the support in a number of ways, including calling the TSCs directly, contacting your Region's
Superfund and Technology Liaison (STL), or by contacting members of the three Technical Support Project
forums. The STLs are ORD employees, who reside in each regional office. (See list on side 2.) The STLs can
give technical assistance and describe the types of expertise available at each TSC. Members of the three forums
(Engineering, Ground Water and Federal Facilities) are regional employees who can also provide technical
advice or help you access technical support. More on the forums can be found at http://www.epa.aov/superfund/
remedvtech/tsp/.

There is a range of expertise available at the three jointly supported TSCs:

Engineering TSC - Assists customers with field evaluation and demonstration of innovative technologies,
verification of externally acquired data, development and testing of management techniques and disposal
practices, and a strong technical assistance capability for both Superfund and non-Superfund contamination.

Ground Water TSC - Provides support on issues regarding subsurface contamination, contaminant flux to
other media (e.g., surface water or air), and ecosystem restoration. This support includes technical guidance
in site characterization and the selection of remedial or management alternatives. The Ground WaterTSC also
reviews and interprets site-specific applications of models and assists in the review of design, construction,
implementation, and evaluation of remedial systems.

Site Characterization and Monitoring TSC - Assists customers throughout a site characterization event, i.e.,
from planning and design to analysis and data interpretation.

Other resources are available to assist customers with more specific issues, such as aerial photography,
sediments, risk assessment radiation, greener cleanups, and environmental footprint evaluation. (See table on
side 2.)

The three jointly supported TSCs are part of ORD and respond to
400-500 requests for technical assistance each year.
