The next EPA SBIR Phase 1 solicitation is anticipated to open in mid-June 2022. An informational webinar will be held on June 1 at 2 p.m. EDT to provide an overview of this year's topics and proposal requirements. More information about the webinar and this year's solicitation topics will be sent out soon. U.S. Small Business Administration Tibbetts Award nominations are now open. The U.S. Small Business Administration is seeking nominations for Tibbetts Awards now through May 4. These awards are presented to small businesses and organizations that exemplify the best in the SBIR program. Anyone can nominate a business and/or supporting organization for a Tibbetts Award, including self- nominations. Learn more and submit formal nominations here. The EPA SBIR team recently published a case study analysis focused on small business awardees attempting to commercialize innovative water reuse technology. This analysis discusses challenges, barriers and opportunities surrounding commercialization of novel water reuse innovations. This document supports EPA's National Water Reuse Action Plan, Action 7.5 to coordinate and promote water reuse technology across the federal SBIR program. Read the piece here. The SBIR/STTR Spring Innovation Conference is occurring in June. The EPA SBIR team is participating in the 2022 SBIR/STTR Spring Innovation Conference being held in Washington, D.C. on June 15-18. This is a chance for small businesses to connect with program managers across the federal SBIR program, learn how to compete for funding and create commercialization strategies, and network with investors and fellow technology developers. SBIR Small Business Spotlight Triangle Environmental Health Initiative, an EPA SBIR small business based in North Carolina, was recently awarded the EPA Administrator's Award for Outstanding Accomplishments by a HUBZone Contractor. This award recognizes Triangle Environmental for their outstanding contributions to EPA's SBIR program. Triangle Environmental has received multiple EPA SBIR awards to develop and commercialize innovative water technology including electrodialytic nutrient recovery from wastewater and a zero waste water and energy recovery system.
