Watering Alert from CommuniTree Partners

According to the Indiana
Drought Monitor we are in an
abnormally dry period. If

you've received trees through the
CommuniTree program in the
past few years, please make sure
to water them thoroughly during
dry spells.

Newly planted trees must be
watered with 10-15 gallons per
week throughout the growing
season for the first 2-3 years.

Please be especially diligent
watering all trees planted within
the last 3 years. Make sure your
trees are well mulched
(remember- mulch donut, not
mulch volcano) to help retain
moisture. This care in the early
years will help the trees you've
invested in to live long lives and

-------
deliver the many community
benefits associated with healthy
trees.

For more information on how to
care for your trees, view the
United States Forest Service
(USFS) Tree Owner's Manual
here or Davey Residential Blog

The U.S. Drought Monitor depicts the location and intensity of drought across the country. The
map uses 5 classifications: Abnormally Dry (DO), showing areas that may be going into or are
coming out of drought, and four levels of drought (D1-D4). This map is used by the U.S.
Department of Agriculture to trigger some disaster declarations and loan eligibility. Individual
states and water supply planning may use additional information to inform their declarations and
actions. Learn more(link is external). How has drought impacted this state in the past? View
