WATERS FEDERAL PARTNERSHIP
2020 EPA OVERVIEW

The Urban Waters Federal Partnership (UWFP)
is an EPA program with 20 sites designated
across the country. The Green-Duwamish is the
only designation in EPA Region 10. The GD-
UWFP is focused on delivering needed on-the
ground projects working to aid communities in
the watershed. We hope to fill gaps and not
duplicate efforts. Specifically, efforts are non-
regulatoiy, community focused and works
achieving water quality goals. Our program
serves as a partnership resource ior many
different EPA efforts — connect with us!

Project Successes include:

•	Pollution indicators with youth and
community organizations

•	Ecosystem services analysis with non-profits,
university, and other federal partners

•	Community engagement and information
dissemination

•	Green infrastructure and environmental
restoration

Strategy:

•	Impact with small amounts of money

•	Spend reflecting community identified
needs

•	Partnering communities and organizations
with federal and non-lederal governments

•	Substantial match and leveraged in-kind
contributions (3:1 over the past 3 years)

•	Volunteerism and adoptability focus

Priorities:

•	Watershed and community benefits,
environmental justice focus

•	Building on Clean Water Act core
programs, TMDLs, and permits

•	Work in partnership with the NEP

•	Transferable lessons/tools beyond G-D to
sites throughout the I)N W

•	Holistic project scope: engage end users,
land managers, and community
stakeholders

Funding:

Project funds are directed to community and
non-profit organizations. Typically, $40-45K
goes towards 4-5 community entities annually,
focused towards immediate impact, equitable
needs, and project competition. Administration
of the GD-UWFP is provided by USDA Forest
Service and EPA Region 10 with staff support
time.
