The goal of the Collaborative is to leverage federal funds to strategically reduce emissions from the most polluting diesel sources in impacted
communities. The Collaborative seeks to improve air quality and public health by targeting the highest polluting engines with the most cost effective
control strategies.

Tribal DERA 2020:

Quinault Indian Nation -
Marine Diesel Engine
Repower Project

Under the Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA), the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded
the Quinault Indian Nation QIN), located in Tahola,
Washington, a $200,000 Tribal DERA grant with Fiscal
Year 2020 DERA funding. The grant will be used to
replace one (1) Tier 0 diesel marine engine and one (1)
Tier 0 diesel Auxiliary engine on one (1) vessel with two
current EPA standard marine Tier 3 diesel engines. The
FY20 project will be implemented with EPA requested
funds and mandatory cost share of $57,918, for a total
project cost of $257,918.

What is the Project?

The Quinault Indian Nation will work with the selected fishing fleet
vessel owner to replace one (1) Tier 0 diesel marine engine and one
(1) Tier 0 diesel Auxiliary engine on one vessel with two current EPA
standard marine Tier 3 diesel engines.

Why is this Project Important?

The QIN Clean Marine Fishing Fleet is a multi-phase project that will
assist eligible tribal commercial fishing fleet vessels with marine
engine repower replacement to tribal commercial fishing fleet
vessels.

What are the Estimated Environmental
Benefits?

The Quinault Indian Nation anticipates significant reductions in diesel
emissions based on EPA's verified emission reduction estimations,
using the Diesel Emission Quantifier. The FY2020 marine engine
replacement will have immediate annual reduction of NOx by 5.841
tons; PM2.5 - 0.515 tons; HC - 0.343 tons; and CO - 0.420 tons.

How is this Project Funded?

The West Coast Collaborative is a partnership between leaders from
federal, tribal, state, and local government, the private sector, and
environmental groups committed to reducing diesel emissions along
the West Coast and is part of the National Clean Diesel Campaign:
www.eoa.gov/cieandiesel. with use of requested funds from the EPA
Tribal DERA Grant Program and mandatory cost share requirements.
