List of FY 2023 Brownfield Technical Assistance Grant Selections EPA is announcing the selection of three new cooperative agreements for Brownfields Technical Assistance that will focus on three different areas of technical assistance. The selectees are Groundwork USA, the University of Connecticut, and the Center for Community Progress. All of these projects will be nationally focused. Groundwork USA has been selected to provide technical assistance to nonprofits seeking to reuse brownfields. The goal is to help nonprofits develop expertise and experience to lead brownfield revitalization projects in local communities. This includes building brownfields leadership capacity amongst nonprofits that are mission-focused (e.g., faith-based or those focused on health, affordable housing, small business support, land conservation, the arts, history, sports, recreation, etc.) and nonprofit community development organizations. This is a $1,000,000 project over 5 years. The University of Connecticut has been selected to conduct research, technical assistance, and related outreach on minimizing displacement resulting from brownfields assessment, cleanup, and reuse. The goal is to help communities build practical knowledge, prepare for and direct the changes sparked by brownfields assessment and cleanup activities to minimize displacement, maximize benefits to existing or indigenous community members, and provide other environmental and public health benefits to the existing community. This is a $500,000 project over 4 years. The Center for Community Progress has been selected to conduct research, technical assistance, and related outreach on land bank approaches for brownfields revitalization. The goal is to introduce communities to various brownfields and land banking approaches and expand community use of land banks as a tool for brownfields revitalization. This is a $500,000 project over 4 years.
