How to Avoid D sturliing Soil In Eastwick Park The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is designing the cleanup for the Clearview Landfill part of the Lower Darby Creek Area Superfund Site. Soil testing has shown that there are contaminants in the soil beneath the surface of Eastwick Park (the Park). The levels of contaminants in the Park do not pose an immediate health risk for Park Users. Long-term exposure to contaminants over an extended period (30-70 years) can pose potential health concerns. Using the Park's paved surfaces and facilities (playground, basketball & tennis courts, recreation center, bike paths) is safe. It is recommended that people who use the Park should: • Avoid games and activities that disturb the soil, like digging, scraping, picking up rocks. • Avoid any "water-play" activities, such as sprinklers and pools, in grassy or bare soil areas. • Avoid walking in the Park in bare feet. • Place blankets or towels down prior to sitting in grassy areas. • Avoid sports activities that could rip up grassy areas (golf, football, or wearing cleats). • Ride bikes on designated bike paths and paved areas. Avoid riding in grass. • Prevent dogs or other pets from digging in the Park. It is recommended that after using grassy areas of the Park. people should: • Make sure to wash hands or other areas of exposed skin that may have contacted the Park soil. • Take off shoes and clean off pet paws before going inside homes. • Wash outdoor toys, sporting equipment, etc., before bringing them inside homes. • Clean floors, counters and furniture regularly to reduce soil dust inside homes. • Report any uprooted trees or any other damage to the Park's grassy areas to the City of Philadelphia.
