U.S. Environmental Protection Agency - Region 6 Rainwater Storage & Harvesting Santa Fe Railyard Park and Plaza Santa Fe, New Mexico Captured rainwater is used for irrigation on the Santa Fe Railyard Park and Plaza's 12.5 acre site. The City of Santa Fe encourages active and passive rainwater-harvesting techniques through the city's various ordinances. The 12.5 acre Santa Fe Railyard Park and Plaza has a catchment system that collects rainwater from nearby building roofs. The harvested water is filtered and stored in five separate 15,000 gallon cisterns buried underground within the park and a 35,000 gallon elevated water tower. The water is used for irrigation throughout the park. The water harvesting system at the Santa Fe Railyard Park and Plaza is the centerpiece of the park's design. A 35,000 gallon water tower, along with five cisterns, is used to store rainwater. Pumps feature variable speed capability, allowing them to handle both drip irrigation and spray heads. The south cisterns before burial underground.
