Creek border the site to the east. An active rock quarry borders it to
the north. Undeveloped land borders it to the west and south. Nearby
land uses include industrial, commercial, agricultural and residential
areas.

The site is zoned for industrial uses. It is in an Opportunity Zone tax
incentive area.

Allied Propane is the only active business on site. Most of the site is
not in use.

Surrounding population: 1 mile, 286 people; 3 miles, 12,971
people; 5 miles, 31,885 people

REMEDIAL STATUS:

From 1960 to 1972, a munitions manufacturing facility was active
on site. Burial and discharge of ordnance product wastes led to
contamination of groundwater, soil and nearby water supply wells.

EPA added the site to the Superfund program's National Priorities
List in 1997.

Short-term cleanup activities from 2010 to 2011 and 2014 to 2015
removed hazardous materials and contaminated soil and treated
residential groundwater wells.

The site's long-term cleanup has been ongoing since 2015. EPA
treats groundwater and monitors the site. The Maryland Department
of the Environment monitors and maintains residential well treatment
systems.

EPA reviewed the site's remedy most recently in 2020. EPA found
that it remains protective of human health and the environment.
Additional remedial actions are being developed to achieve
groundwater cleanup goals.
