Site Name: Macon Naval Ordnance Plant Superfund Site Size: 433 acres Existing Site Infrastructure: Road, railroad and commercial infrastructure are in place, with standard utilities available. Current Site Uses: The Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority (MBCIA) operates the Allied Industrial Park on site. Companies include Freudenberg Texbond LP, plumbing and roofing supply companies, and a moving and storage company. Use Restrictions: None in place. SETTING: • The site is located in a commercial area. • MBQA leases and sells on-site buildings for commercial and industrial use. Other businesses have also built facilities, on site. • As of December 2017, EPA had data for 19 on-site businesses. These businesses employed 630 people and generated an estimated $108,523,482 in annual sales revenue. • Surrounding population: 0.5 miles, 28 people 2.5 miles, 11,297 people | 4.0 miles, 37,736 people. REMEDIAL STATUS: • The site includes the area where die U.S. Navy and several companies manufactured ordnance, conducted metal plating and made seatbelts from 1941 to 1981. Improper handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances resulted in site- wide contamination. • EPA placed die site on the Superfund program's National Priorities List in 2013. • Groundwater beneadi the site is contaminated with Disddm0i EPA does not warrant that the property is suitable for any particular use. Prospective purchasers must contact the property owner for sale potential. trichloroediene (TCek The groundwater is not used for drinking water.. However, TCE in groundwater can contaminate indoor air via a process called vapor intrusion, especially in smaller enclosed spaces. • EPA sampled die air at several site businesses in 2015; two locations had unacceptable levels of TCE in indoor air. • At these two locations, EPA took immediate steps to mitigate vapor intrusion and reduce TCE to acceptable levels in indoor air. • BPA expects to finalize agreements with potentially responsible parties (PRPs) in September 2018, dien begin die site's PRP-led remedial investigation in 2019.
