Site Name: LCP Chemicals Inc. Superfund Site Size: 813 acres Existing Site Infrastructure: All major utilities are available nearby. Current Site Uses: Glynn County Sheriff's Complex and the Glynn County Detention Center are located on a 35-acre portion of the site. The site's 121-acre upland area offers opportunities for additional redevelopment. Use Restrictions: Use of other site areas is restricted during cleanup. SETTING: • Glynn County zoned the site's 121-acre upland area for industrial land uses. • The site also includes 760 acres of tidal marsh. The Turtle River borders the site. • Land uses nearby include marshes to the west and south. The City of Brunswick is located south and east of the site, • LP A has determined that the site's remedy will be compatible with commercial, industrial and residential uses. • As of December 2017, 1 :P.\ had data for two on-site businesses. These businesses employed 98 people. • Surrounding population: 0.5 miles, 77 people 2.5 miles, 20,752 people | 4 miles, 41,071 people. REMEDIAL STATUS: • Several industrial facilities operated on site from the early 1920s to 1994. • Facility operations resulted in groundwater, soil and sediment contamination. Prospective purchasers must contact the property owner for sale potential. • EPA placed the site on the Superfund program's National Priorities List (NPL) in June 1996. • The site's potentially responsible party is leading investigation and cleanup activities, with oversight provided by EPA and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. • Between 1994 and 1999, removal actions removed contaminated soils and industrial wastes from 26 contaminated areas on the 123-acre upland portion of die site and dismantled petroleum process and mercury cell buildings. • In 2013, a carbon dioxide sparging system was put in place as a short-term groundwater remedy. • Work is underway on the remedial design for the site's marsh area as well as long-term remedies for groundwater contamination, soil beneath the former mercury cell buildings, and upland soil areas.
