Site Name: Armstrong World Industries Superfund Site Size: 130 acres Existing Site Infrastructure: Road, railroad and commercial infrastructure are in place. Standard utilities are available. Current Site Uses: A manufacturing facility is located on site. The 4-acre Armstrong Macon Meadow is also located on site. Meadow gardens provide habitat for butterflies, hummingbirds and bees. Use Restrictions: None. SETTING: • The site is zoned for commercial uses. • Land uses nearby are primarily commercial. • The northern part of the site includes Armstrong World Industries' manufacturing area, a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP), the WWTP Landfill and the Woodyard Landfill. The southern part of the site includes the Remote Landfill, located on Rocky Creek. • Groundwater beneath the site is not used for drinking water, • Surrounding population: 0.5 miles, 103 people 2.5 miles, 13,068 people j 4.0 miles, 43,479 people. REMEDIAL STATUS: • An acoustic ceiling tile manufacturing plant has operated on site since 1948. • EPA placed the site on the Superfund program's National Priorities List in 2011 because of contaminated fish, Disddfmri JSPA does not warrant that the property is suitable for any particular use. Prospective purchasers must contact the property owner for sale potential. groundwater, sediment and soil resulting from waste disposal operations. • To manage the cleanup, J {.PA divided tin- site into two operable units (OUs). GUI addresses the WWTP Landfill. OU2 addresses the Remote Landfill and Rocky Creek. • Armstrong put in an engineered cap/liner system for the WWTP Landfill and created the Armstrong Macon Meadow as part of final OU1 capping activities in 2016. • BPA is currently negotiating an agreement with potentially responsible parties for the OU2 remedial investigation and feasibility study. Remedial investigations for OU2 are expected to begin soon.
