EPA SBIR 2023-2024 Phase I Solicitation to Open in June. The next
EPA SBIR Phase I solicitation is anticipated to open in June 2023. An
informational webinar will be held in early June to provide an overview of
this year's topics and proposal requirements. More information about the
webinar and this year's solicitation topics will be sent out soon via the
EPA SBIR Listserv. If you plan to submit a proposal to this year's
solicitation, be sure to complete EPA's required registrations.

EPA SBIR Highlights Small Businesses Developing Technologies to
Improve Recycling. The EPA SBIR team recently published a topic-
focused story highlighting six recycling technologies supported by EPA's
SBIR program. This star discusses innovative technologies that EPA
SBIR-funded small businesses are developing to improve recycling,
reduce emissions and siow ciimate change. These technologies include an
artificial intelligence-powered trash system for sorting and auditing waste
at point of disposal, a data platform for waste traceability, and a recycling
supply chain measurement system utilizing blockchain and GIS-based
verification.

Register for America's Seed Fund Week. The U.S. Small Business
Administration is hosting a virtual America's Seed Fund Week from May
15-18 to help connect technology developers to SBIR programs across
the federal government. The EPA SBIR team will be participating in
Agency Open Houses on May 17 from 2-4 p.m. ET as well as a panel on
May 18 from 2-3 p.m. ET to provide insight on preparing a competitive
SBIR proposal. Learn more and register.

SBIR Small Business Spotllight

Aerodyne Research Inc., an EPA SBIR small business based in
Massachusetts, received EPA SBIR fundinc to develop an ethylene oxide
monitor with an ultra-low limit of detection. Over the course of their
project, Aerodyne has conducted multiple field deployments to test and
demonstrate their technology including deployments in Philadelphia, Los
Angeles, Boston and Donaldsonville. Aerodyne also recently published a
journal article highlighting their monitor.

Nature's Fynd, an EPA SBIR small business
based in Illinois, developed a novel microorganism
to convert feedstocks into nutritional biomass
which can be used as protein for meat and dairy
substitutes. This fermentation technology grows
proteins using only a fraction of the land and
water resources required by traditional agriculture.

Since 2020, Nature's Fynd has raised over $80
million in Series B funding which has allowed the

company to expand production and manufacturing capabilities, advance
commercialization efforts and increase team size. Nature's Fynd products
can now be found at select grocery stores and online.

The next EPA SBIR solicitation is anticipated to be released in June 2023
