WaterSense's new Home Maintenance web page includes a Maintenance Checklist for a Water-Efficient Home to provide homeowners with tips to keep water-using fixtures in tip-top shape. The checklist suggests home maintenance tasks that can be performed daily, monthly, annually, or every few years to save water and provides more detailed explanations of each task. Reverse Osmosis Systems Allow Water Treatment With Less Waste EPA created a Guide to Selecting Water Treatment Systems to inform consumers about drinking water treatment technologies and various options to meet their treatment needs. One technology, point-of-use reverse osmosis (RO) systems, can waste a significant amount ofwater during operation. In November2024, EPA released the WaterSense Specification for Point-of-Use Reverse Osmosis Systems to help consumers save money by identifying products that will waste less water in the treatment process. A WaterSense labeled model will reduce water waste by more than 3,100 gallons peryearon average compared to a traditional point-of-use RO system. WaterSense Labeled Homes Continue to Perform Well and Drive Down Costs More than a decade after construction, the zHome community (the first community of all WaterSense labeled homes) in Issaquah, Washington, has demonstrated a 77 percent water savings on average compared to typical homes in the area over the past decade. That amounts to over 53,000 gallons ofwater saved per home each year, and $600 per home saved annually in combined water and energy utility costs! WaterSense partners Cascade (Washington) Water Alliance and the City of Issaquah worked togetherto evaluate the continued water savings and satisfaction of homeowners. They found that 86 percent of residents surveyed strongly agreed they are satisfied with their WaterSense labeled home.
