Site Name: Taylor Road Landfill Superfund Site Size: 42 acres Existing Site Infrastructure: All major utilities are available on site. Current Site Uses: Hillsborough County established a recycling center, a community collection center, a household chemical/electronics collection center, a site maintenance facility and an environmental field office at die site. The County uses part of die landfill to grow hay for erosion control and worked widi die Tampa Radio- Control Aircraft Club and die Academy of Model Aeronautics on a model airplane park diat includes a paved runway and covered working areas. Commercial uses on die southern part of die site include a truck stop, a restaurant and car sales. Use Restrictions: Land uses on die landfill are prohibited by die State RCRA Landfill Closure Program. SETTING: • The site is part of a larger 252-acre property that includes a Hillsborough County-owned landfill complex of three closed landfills — the 42-acre Taylor Road Landfill, the 64- acre Hillsborough Heights Landfill and the 11-acre Florida Department of Transportation Borrow Pit Landfill. • Hie closed landfills are capped, vegetated and vacant. • Site surroundings include residential, commercial and agricultural areas. • As of December 2017, EPA had data for 10 on-site businesses. These businesses employed 243 people and generated an estimated $134,042,780 in annual sales revenue. • Surrounding population: 0.5 mile, 442 people 2.5 miles, 23,626 people | 4 miles, 65,632 people. REMEDIAL STATUS: • Hillsborough County operated a solid waste landfill at the site from 1975 to 1980. • During site investigations, BPA determined that the Taylor Road Landfill was the only landfill contributing to groundwater contamination at the site.
