ATTAINS Data in How's My Waterway 2.0

If you spot an error in How's My Waterway (HMW) from ATTAINS data, this document explains where to find it
in ATTAINS. State staff may be able to fix some issues directly. Other issues may require EPA assistance. While
some issues such as incorrect historical data cannot be fixed, it can be replaced in HMW with newer cycle data.
How's My Waterway shows the latest cycle of Integrated Report (IR) data that has been submitted electronically
to EPA or approved by EPA in ATTAINS.

Issues from Community Page (Individual Waterbody level)

Assessment Unit Name

Comes directly from ATTAINS "Assessment Units" tab. Changes show up
when the next Assessment cycle is submitted electronically to EPA.

Assessment decision

Comes from ATTAINS "Assessments" tab. Changes show up when the next
Assessment cycle is submitted electronically to EPA.

TMDL or other Plan is
Missing

Comes from ATTAINS "Actions" tab. TMDLs, 4B Restoration Approaches,
Alternative Approaches, or Protection Plans must be entered and finalized in
ATTAINS to show up in HMW. Documents associated with the TMDL or other
Plan show up exactly as entered in ATTAINS.

How ATTAINS Geospatial
Data are Used in How's My
Waterway

States submit geospatial locations of Assessment Units through ATTAINS
"Assessment Units" tab Menu Upload GIS. How's My Waterway uses
the geometry provided by the states to display Assessment Units. Various
Assessment attributes are summarized and attached to the geospatial data
for display on a map. This information becomes visible in HMW after the IR
cycle is submitted electronically to EPA.

Statewide Statistical Survey
data

Comes from ATTAINS "Surveys" tab. Only surveys that are marked as
"Final" in ATTAINS show up in HMW.

Integrated Report data

Comes from the Assessment decisions in ATTAINS "Assessments" tab and
the water sizes entered in ATTAINS "Assessment Units" tab. ATTAINS
summarizes the results by Use and Water Type for the most recent cycle
submitted electronically to EPA.

State Integrated Report
Documents

Comes from documents attached to the most recent Assessment Cycle
submitted electronically to EPA. These are found under ATTAINS
"Assessments" tab Manage Cycle Documents.

Statewide Statistical Survey
Documents

Comes from documents attached to the most recent published statewide
statistical survey for each Water Type. These are found under ATTAINS
"Surveys" tab Documents.

URLs at the bottom of State
page

Just like with the Metrics and Paragraph, these are also entered through the
ATTAINS "Administration" tab Menu Metrics.
